Maxilmilien "Max" Darché, Trumpet

As a graduate student in the Jazz Studies Program at Purchase College (SUNY), Maxilmilien David Darché is pursuing a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance under the guidance of Professor and Director of Jazz Performance Jon Faddis. Prior to attending and graduating with a BM in Jazz Studies from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College in 2006, Darché studied at Manhattan School of Music for several years, receiving tutelage from Lew Soloff and Vince Penzarella. As an undergraduate at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, Max received the President’s Award for outstanding academic and creative accomplishment. Developing his career in music, Darché has performed with various groups in New York and beyond, including appearances with the Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra of New York at the NEA Jazz Masters Award Concert in January 2006, as a guest with the Jon Faddis Quartet at the Jazz Standard, at Blues Alley in Washington D.C., and at the Louis Armstrong House & Archives in Corona, Queens. Darché has also performed with John Fedchock, Mike Le Donne, Bob Mintzer, Claudio Roditi, and Renee Rosnes, among others. In addition to his graduate work and professional performances, Darché also works with younger students, including mentorships and teaching at the Purchase College Summer Jazz Camp. Darché is very honored to be selected as an inaugural James Moody Scholar.

Andrew Gould, Alto Saxophone

Andrew Gould is from Long Island, New York, and, in 2007, was a junior in the Jazz Studies Program at Purchase College (SUNY). He currently studies saxophone with Steve Wilson and has previously studied with Jon Gordon, Dave Pietro, Gary Smulyan, and Javon Jackson. Andrew plays lead alto in both the Purchase Jazz Orchestra directed by Todd Coolman, and the Purchase Latin Jazz Orchestra directed by Ray Vega.
Gould has played two summer tours of Hawaii with Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts. He won an outstanding soloist award in the 2003 North Texas Jazz Festival. He has performed at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, and Smoke Jazz Club, in New York City. Gould performed at Governor Spitzer's Inauguration ceremony and for regional theater productions of the musicals Swing and Anything Goes. He continues to play various gigs around New York as well as teach private saxophone lessons. Gould is extremely honored and grateful to be designated as a James Moody Scholar.
